Oostvaardersplassen: An Eldorado for wildlife - l'Eldorado pour la nature sauvage

Eldorado... That's how the brochure describes the conservation area "Oostvaardersplassen" situated in the Flevoland polder in the Netherlands.

During its reclaiming nature took control of this area and never let go. This has given the Netherlands a nature reserve that is unique in Europe. Grazers play a key role in the natural dynamic of the Oostvaardersplassen. Alongside the greylag geese, three large grazers play a role in the natural dynamic: red deer, Heck cattle and konik horses, grazers that occurred in the Netherlands long ago. The nature reserve’s most valuable aspect is its unparalleled variety in species and the manner in which nature is developing which is unheard of.

Eldorado... C'est ainsi que  la brochure décrit la zone protégée "Oostvaardersplassen" située dans le polder Flevoland aux Pays-Bas.

Quand on a asséché le polder, la nature a repris ses droits pour de bon. Le résultat en a été l'apparition d'une réserve naturelle unique en Europe.  Les oies cendrées et trois grands herbivores y jouent un rôle important dans la dynamique naturelle: les cerfs élaphes, les aurochs de Heck, les koniks (une race de petits chevaux très rustiques d'origine polonaise), qui sont apparus aux Pays-Bas il y a longtemps.  Le plus grand atout de la réserve naturelle est sa variété inégalable d'espèces et la façon dont la nature s'y est développée.
